Just know that it kills me to give Exit Through the Gift Shop a C… I wanted to like it, I wanted to like it so much. But the truth is that it was booorrrrinnggggg to me. I think the modern street art movement is fascinating and I love the shit Banksy does and what he’s all about… but this movie was just not done in a way that grabbed me.
Thierry Guetta is a funky dude who is definitely full of passion and enthusiasm for street art, but that just did not translate well on camera and he came off as a weirdo. The parts where he was following around street artists and learning what they do was great and very interesting, but the other 60 minutes about Thierry Guetta were not.
I think this did an awesome thing for the street art community and I like the documentary in that sense, but I think it could have been done in a way that was more exciting and interesting the whole way through. Sorry Banksy.
Saw HANNA this weekend- directed by Joe Wright starring Saoirse Ronan, Eric Bana and Cate Blanchette. I give it a very solid B+ and I was actually quite impressed with it. I didn’t have many expectations going in but was definitely digging the directing (long impressive shots and wacky swirly close ups) and love love loved the Chemical Brothers music throughout. A few story lines went unanswered which I didn’t like, but overall it was a cool plot.
It was a modern, funky action flick with a lot of style and ass-kicking. I was very taken with Saoirse Ronan’s lead character and how stunning she is on screen and can definitely see her becoming a big name very soon. Also must shout out to Jessica Barden’s character Sophie, who stole the show in the humor department- so well played as the intensely bratty English teenager. This was the perfect action movie for both men and women- it is intense with a lot of action but with some very cute, funny bits as Hanna discovers the world she has never been a part of. Definitely recommend for a good date movie.
